Three years ago I took the chance of starting this organization, mainly driven by a "need" for social justice in our community. I couldn't understand how some leaders pointed at our communities, labeling them as "sick/insane/crazy", when their circumstances couldn't provide a better option. It bothered me to hear those leaders criticizing communities without providing them the necessary tools to help them develop into healthier ones. That's when the "seed" was "planted", and [the informal version of] Magis began to work in New Orleans.
Two years ago, with much anxiety, fear, and a slightly overwhelming sense of excitement, I was holding Magis' first official document (the registration), marking the official birth of this organization. That seed has been growing ever since!
This year has been an intense one, filled with a lot of work and higher community impact. From launching the Family v. Cancer campaign and our "Teens and Technology" awareness campaign, to having a "family" growth, through new volunteers and partnerships!
It is with much excitement that I look forward to our next projects:
-Magis celebration event. (Coming soon!)-New Website launching. (at the "celebration" event).-MagisTV. (TBA)-A more interactive Couple's Corner, EduBlog, educational campaigns. (Jan 2012)-BIG annual awareness and education campaign. (2012)-More community education events!
I'm very happy with what we've achieved so far, the families and people we have empowered, and what we're working on.
